‘One of my most talked about buildings is the Tschuggen Bergoase Spa (tschuggen.ch/en) in Switzerland, which has a very distinctive look.

'Most of the spa is actually underground, built deep into the mountain range behind the Tschuggen Hotel. T

'his was what attracted me to the project – building within the bowels of the earth. But the wow factor comes from the nine tree-shaped skylights, which emerge from the earth.

‘When I stay in hotels, I look for a feeling of serenity. I want to feel cosseted and looked after.

‘I keep extremely busy. I am working on 20 different projects at the moment: across America, Europe and also in China and Korea.

'They are all very different – from the winery Château Faugères (chateau-faugeres.com) in Saint-Emilion, France, to the Bechtler Art Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.’
