Of all the holidays I’ve enjoyed, the Maldives stands out as being special. I was working for a magazine and was sent on an all-expenses paid trip to the One&Only Reethi Rah resort. I got to take my husband Rupert, baby daughter Skyla and my mum, who kindly offered up her babysitting services.
The resort was breathtakingly beautiful and our villa came with a private beach. It felt so secluded and swimming in the warm African waters was bliss. I used to favour more action-packed holidays, but since having my daughter relaxing is top of my agenda because it’s such a rare occurrence.
Rupert went diving but I preferred afternoons at the spa. I spent mornings lying on the hammock on our beach deck reading. We cycled through the tropical breeze to get around and liked that there were two different sides to the island resort — one that was quiet and one that was a little wilder.
Considering it was an island, I was surprised by the sheer variety of food on offer — the bars were also great. Going for fresh mint mojitos after dinner, before strolling back to our villa, became a favourite pastime.
