Dairy mades
Lincolnshire Poacher is a type of hard, cheddar-style cheese made by Simon and Tim Jones with milk from their own dairy herd in Ulceby Grange, Lincolnshire. It has unique nutty notes with a good sharp tang. Available from Neal’s Yard Dairy. nealsyarddairy.co.uk

Bangers and bacon
Richard Woodall in Cumbria makes the best free-range pork products, dry-cure bacon and the tastiest smoked Waberthwaite sausages. It’s a family business started about 175 years ago and all produce is free-range. richardwoodall.com

Real ales
The Meantime Brewing Company was founded by master brewer Alistair Hook in Greenwich, London, in 1999. It produces some of the best craft beers in the UK with my personal favourites being London Pale Ale and London Porter. meantimebrewing.com

Take the bait
Scottish small family business Alex Spink and Sons sells Arbroath smokies — traditional hot-smoked haddock. They are smoked in pairs over oak and best served very simply split in half and grilled with butter. arbroathsmokiesonline.co.uk

Best of British to you
British wine has such a bad reputation but the Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2003, made in a vineyard in West Sussex, continually beats French Champagne in blind tastings. It has a delicious, biscuity crisp taste with overtones of honey, lemon and almonds. nyetimber.com

The award-winning Mr Bean
Chocolatier Paul A Young comes from Yorkshire and is now known as one of our best chocolate makers. His sea-salted caramels continually win him awards. He also does some more experimental combinations, which are equally delicious. paulayoung.co.uk

Flour power
Flourstation breads use top-quality, natural ingredients. The result are breads with a unique character, texture and taste. flourstation.com
