Food shop winner

Whole Foods Market Kensington, London

It was a tough call, but organic superstore Whole Foods Market in west London pipped others to the post, thanks to its huge variety of top-notch produce. Since it arrived in Europe two years ago from the US, shoppers have been wowed by its choice of more than 100 different olive oils, 40 types of freshly baked bread and a counter of up to 400 cheeses. 3rd La Fromagerie Marylebone and Highbury, London (lafromagerie.co.uk)

Bar winner

Harry’s Bar Venice

Old-time favourite Harry’s Bar in Venice saw off the competition – a bellini here (where the drink was invented) is as essential a part of the city as a ride in a gondola. The stylish ambience has been drawing celebrities and tourists for almost 80 years. (cipriani.com)
2nd Hakkasan West End, London
3rd Bbar Victoria, London (bbarlondon.com)

Hotel restaurant winner

Gordon Ramsay at Claridges Mayfair, London

A hotly contested category, but Gordon Ramsay’s modern European restaurant in London’s prestigious Claridges hotel came up trumps. Everything about the dining experience is grand, from the high-ceilinged, Art Deco surrounds to the sumptuous menu featuring seasonal delights – the crispy Suffolk pork belly is a must. 2nd Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons Great Milton, Oxfordshire (manoir.com)
3rd Foliage, Mandarin Oriental Knightsbridge, London (mandarinoriental.com)
