The best new openings

It seems not five minutes go by without another hotel opening or refurbishment completing in the Caribbean. The most hotly anticipated have been the Viceroy Anguilla (ocean-view studios from £430; viceroyanguilla.com); and the W Retreat & Spa Vieques (king rooms from £350; whotels.com/vieques). Launching now is Rosalie Bay (rooms from £120; rosaliebay.com), and the recently opened Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic is a wondrous retreat. Stay seven nights all inclusive including flights from £2,119pp with BA (ba.com/dominicanrepublic).

Elsewhere, old classics are being revived: Four Seasons Nevis (de-luxe rooms from £289; fourseasons.com/nevis) and Goldeneye, Jamaica (suites from £655; goldeneye.com), which has been overhauled by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki. Jalousie Plantation, St Lucia, has new suites and a spa — stay seven nights (including flights) from £1,725pp with BA (room only) (ba.com/stlucia). And Tamarind Cove in Barbados has been refurbished and rebranded Tamarind — seven nights with BA (including flights) costs from £1,310pp (includes full breakfast). Visit ba.com/barbados. And Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma at Emerald Bay re-emerges as Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma. Stay seven nights all inclusive (including flights) with BA from £3,730. Visit ba.com/nassau.
