London restaurant openings: September

September 2009

 / 1 of 1

If you only go to two London restaurants this month, try one of these:

Brompton Bar and Grill
This brasserie is like a little piece of France in west London. It’s a tad cramped, but it makes up for lack of space with its charming ambience, attentive service and affordable menu (although they could do with ditching the paper napkins). It’s a perfect spot for weekend brunch – the omelette Arnold Bennett is just £8. Our recommendation is the roast cod with white beans and chorizo. There’s also a buzzy basement bar with live blues and jazz. bromptonbarandgrill.com

Restaurant at St Paul’s
What was once a fairly boring caff in the crypt of St Paul’s cathedral has been transformed into a stylish restaurant and café. The former offers a sophisticated menu based on seasonal British produce and is currently only open for lunch, although dinners may be on the agenda in the future. The café offers prime examples of British baking (anyone for Wiltshire lardy cake?) and afternoon tea is served between 3 and 4.30pm. restaurantatstpauls.co.uk
