You don't have to rough it just because you're high up in the mountains — not when a swathe of new openings in the Swiss Alps are bringing a new level of style to summer on the slopes. Recently opened just outside Gstaad is the charming Walig Hut (palace.ch/rooms-suites/walig-hut), a former farmer's cabin transformed into a romantic, wood-clad bolt hole by the glamorous Gstaad Palace (palace.ch). Although it still has a back-to-basics ethos, guests have the sensational views to themselves, along with all the special touches you'd expect from a grande dame hotel. If the fresh air and five-star service is not quite replenishing enough, however, the village's century-old Grand Hotel Park (grandhotelpark.ch) has just emerged from a facelift, the best bit of which is the huge spa with saltwater pools and Turkish baths — a good spot to boost your Alpine-air glow.
