My idea of a holiday is spending time at home in Melbourne, where I try to kick back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. Sometimes I’ll go fishing or travel around another part of Australia. I live in Melbourne so I don’t have to endure the British winter — I can’t do winters anymore. I haven’t had to put up with one for the last four years. What a plan! Even my work in Europe is based around the summer. I am very fortunate.
It’s important to smell good when you’re travelling. I wear a cologne called 1 Million by Paco Rabanne and always get comments from people about how nice it is.
I’ll travel by any means necessary to get to a job and I’m always on the move, so I need to carry my life with me. My luggage has to be a multifunctional bag and will contain a record-type bag, although I don’t travel with records anymore.
I am Mr Gadget man. I have loads of them, but I only buy what I need like my Flip Camcorder. I never want to miss any moments in life. You just have to press a big red button to record and you can download to a computer immediately. It’s so simple to use.
I like to take my Atomic Floyd headphones with me. They’re made by a small English company. I listen to what I grew up with, like old funk, soul and jazz — real feelgood songs.
When I go on tour, I’ll pack precisely. I am a Regular Joe where fashion is concerned but of course I like to feel good. I’d be in trouble if I was really into fashion, as I just don’t have the time for all that — or the space.
I normally travel with my dear friend Ian, who’s also my tour manager. He takes care of the arrangements and is a very good companion — we’ve been working together for ten years.
