Fife in Scotland is one of my favourite places in the world. I was brought up in Glenrothes opposite Haig's whisky factory, a fantastic red-brick building. There's a whole mixture of industry in Fife and I was lucky to grow up in both town and country. There is such a calmness about Scotland. The countryside is stunning, particularly along the west coast.
My golf clubs come with me wherever I go. Scotland's golf courses are by far the best in the world. We may not have the greatest climate but the design and tradition of the courses more than makes up for that. I played the Dunhill last year at Carnoustie, which is probably the toughest and most spectacular.
I married my wife [actress Claire Forlani] last year in Le Marche, Italy. Her father is Italian and persuaded us to have the ceremony in this beautiful little town. We had a big dinner in an old nunnery, which was amazing. I love Italy. I've also spent time filming in Rome and Sicily and they are such incredible places.
The noise of the jungle in Africa is extraordinary. When I was travelling from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe to Victoria Falls, I could hear the sound of the Falls from the middle of the jungle. It was one of the most memorable journeys I've ever made.
My children travel with me everywhere. They love coming on to the sets of my movies. Last year they were with me in Los Angeles, Bulgaria and Montreal. My ideal holiday ingredients are a quiet beach, good books and great restaurants. I went to St Tropez for a couple of weeks and it is perfect. The town itself is beautiful and there are some fantastic restaurants, particularly the famous Cinquante Cinq.
Canada in the middle of winter is brutal. I wouldn't be jumping up and down to go there at that time of year, but it's beautiful in the summer. I'm a positive traveller. I can't think of anywhere I wouldn't go to again. Of course there are negatives with every place but the positives usually outweigh them.
