Free choral concert in Amsterdam

December 2008

Reader Sue Sherman soothes the soul and then her stomach

From September until June, the monks of the Schola Cantorum sing Gregorian vespers every Sunday in St Nicholas Church, Amsterdam - just a few paces from Grand Central Station. The service starts at 5pm, is open to all and free to attend. Having soothed the soul, a two-minute stroll takes you to the Bird Cafe on Zeedijk 77. If you want to know why this tiny Thai snack bar is always frantically busy, sit down and try the food. Then you'll understand.
