Reader Celeste Sharp recommends taking the train in Southeast Asia

During a recent trip to Southeast Asia, I adamantly wanted to avoid the tourist herd in Bangkok. I caught a train to Hanoi in Vietnam and became enthralled in the country’s dramatic history and landscape. The place was saturated with colour whether travelling through the emerald green paddies in the north or visiting the red sand dunes in Mui Ne. And the Demilitarisation Zone and the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chin Minh City were truly memorable.
