A new Famous Five trail opened this summer in Dorset

Little ones are in for a treat as some exciting new children's books hit the shelves. Find out what happened to the best-loved literary bunny of all time in The Further Tales of Peter Rabbit (£12.99, Frederick Warne), out on 6 September. Written by actress Emma Thompson, the 24th tale in the Peter Rabbit series sees him venture beyond Mr McGregor's garden to Scotland.

For classic fairy tales with a twist, Grimm Tales for Young and Old by Philip Pullman (£20, Penguin Classics) is out on 27 September. The award-winning author of the His Dark Materials trilogy has chosen his 50 favourite stories from the Brothers Grimm and retold them in his unique voice.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Enid Blyton's first Famous Five book Five on a Treasure Island too — a new Famous Five trail opened this summer in Dorset, visit gingerpop.co.uk/adventuretrail2012. And Roald Dahl fans will no doubt be celebrating the 30th anniversary of The BFG, as well as Roald Dahl Day on 13 September.
