The Bush Theatre: Moment
Starting close to home on this journey of international writing, Moment is a new play from the much-celebrated Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan. The story of a family coming to terms with their son returning from prison, it's sure to be gritty, sharply witty stuff.

The Finborough Theatre: Colleen Murphy
The Finborough's artistic director Neil McPherson has a great eye for talent. This month, he introduces us to his new writer-in-residence, the award-winning and controversial Canadian playwright Colleen Murphy. The first of three plays to be performed on Sundays and Mondays is The December Man, which is based upon the aftermath of a campus shooting. If that grabs you, you might also be intrigued by next month's Beating Heart Cadaver, whose theme is the tragic death of a child, and a world premiere of a dark comedy, The Goodnight Bird, in May.

The Gielgud Theatre: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The fantastic Cornish company Kneehigh was last in the West End with stiff upper lips and RP accents for a production of Noel Coward's Brief Encounter that was simply spiffing. Now director Emma Rice brings some French sophistication to London with an adaptation of Michel Legrand and Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Joanna Riding will bring her je ne sais quoi to the character of Madame Emery, and renowned cabaret artist Meow Meow will add ooh-la-la to the role of Lola.

LiT: Stench
A new theatrical venue opens with a real coup for London. LiT is located in a railway arch in trendy Southwark and director Eduardo Victorino has chosen the perfect premiere for his cutting-edge location. Stench is adapted from Lourenço Mutarelli's famous Brazilian novel O Cheiro do Ralo by Victorino and talented young writer Tara Jane. It's the uncompromising story of a singularly unpleasant character who exploits and denigrates everyone around him.

The Royal Court: Remembrance Day

The Royal Court is famous for introducing new playwrights and it isn't just the home grown that it showcases. Its International Playwrights season celebrates 15 years of bringing pioneering work to London with two plays: Our Private Life by Pedro Miguel Rozo is already running, and Remembrance Day by Aleksey Scherbak explores politics and patriotism in Latvia later this month.
