Britain's most gorgeous traditional mall has been revamped for the Noughties. Head down to Piccadilly in London to take a stroll through the chic shops of Burlington Arcade (burlington-arcade.co.uk).

1-2 Vilebrequin

French ultra-chic men’s beachwear brand, Vilebrequin, was launched in the 1970s in St Tropez and is now a favourite among celebrities, including Hugh Grant. The range includes luxurious towels, cotton and linen trousers and shirts, sunglasses and handmade shoes.

3 Michael Rose Jewellers

Michael Rose Jewellers was established in 1980 and sells a range of vintage and new fine jewellery, in addition to top-quality cultured Japanese pearls and covetable gifts. A National Association of Goldsmiths valuation expert is on site.

4 Beatrix Ong

Beatrix Ong, who trained under the master Jimmy Choo, creates some of the world’s most desirable shoes. She launched her flagship boutique store, with salon, last year and has forged a luxury brand to delight bridal and private clients.

5 Ana Konder

Brazilian-born Ana Konder has a cult following for her collection of arty capes, caps, wraps, shawls and scarves crafted with Swarovski crystals. Her boutique also sells luxe accessories by the likes of Shana London, Dania Reiter and Nogo.

7-9 House of Cashmere

Veritable cashmere heaven, this venerated shop sells a range of men’s and women’s knitwear, plus accessories that include capes, scarves, shawls and pashminas.

10-11 Burlington Jewellers

Amid the rapidly changing world of modern jewellery, the newly established Burlington Jewellers is greatly admired for its traditional and personal service and its range of investment classics, including a pearl collection, and coral, tanzanite and aquamarine jewels.

12-13 Polistas

Polistas, the polo lifestyle brand, is a favourite among royals, including Princes Charles, William and Harry, among others. The company was founded in 2001, and dresses many international polo tournaments.

14 Royal Selangor

The world’s largest pewter manufacturer, Royal Selangor was launched in 1885 and is world famous for its formal gifts and tableware. The product range is created by a team of more than 600 skilled pewtersmiths.

15 Rose Fine Jewels

In its bijou shop, Rose Fine Jewels sells a selection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian jewels, in addition to Fabergé eggs, jewellery and objets d’art. The store still retains its original Victorian staircase and many period features.

16-17 Penhaligon’s

Penhaligon’s is an artisanal perfumer extraordinaire, known worldwide for its luxury fragrances, bath products and beautifully crafted grooming utensils. The company, launched in 1870, has a number of celebrity fans, including Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.

18 Sandra Cronan

Boasting a formidable collection of natural and oriental pearl jewellery, Sandra Cronan’s shop is one of London’s foremost establishments for rare and collectable jewels. Cronan was the first female antique-jewellery dealer to be accepted into the British Antiques Dealers Association.

19 Heming

With a history dating to 1745, Heming specialises in classic jewellery designs, vintage pieces and limited edition watches.

20-21 Crockett & Jones

Crockett & Jones was established in 1879 and is now renowned for men’s and women’s footwear. The family-owned business specialises in Goodyear-welted construction – a traditional method of shoemaking by hand.

22 De Maria

De Maria fuses classic Italian tradition with modern innovation in one-of-a-kind handmade pieces. Founded in Naples in 1715, it has become renowned for its specialist craft technique.

23 The Antique Enamel Company

From Viennese vinaigrettes to British bonbonnieres, curiosities, candlesticks, gold boxes and Fabergé scent bottles abound at this treasure trove of enamel pieces from the 18th to the early 20th century. The shop’s expert team also values and restores pieces.

24 The Vintage Watch Company

This small store is home to the world’s largest collection of vintage Rolexes, with more than 500 pieces dating from 1915 to 1970. All watches are lovingly restored by a team of in-house expert technicians.

25 Map World

Map World is a must for collectors of 16th- to 19th-century maps of all international regions. Each map is fully certified and the store is part of LAPADA, the largest antique-dealer organisation in the UK.

26 Daniel Bexfield Antiques

Daniel Bexfield is a renowned industry expert and regularly appears on the BBC. His shop abounds with fine-quality silver objets de vertu ranging from tea services to sauce boats, from the 17th to the 20th century.

27 Matthew Foster

Matthew Foster offers outstanding-quality period jewellery. On sale is a fine collection of diamond and gem-set pieces mounted in platinum as well as yellow gold.

28-29 Richard Ogden

Opened in the Burlington Arcade more than 50 years ago, Richard Ogden is devoted to crafted fine jewellery, and offers a personalised service, including complimentary after-sale cleaning.

30 Ciro Pearls

Experts in costume jewellery and fabulous faux-pearl pieces, Ciro sells treasured classics alongside contemporary must-haves. Launched in 1917, its flagship store in Burlington Arcade has a broad and loyal following.
