Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside — and this month is a great time to visit Margate. Apart from the recently opened Turner Contemporary that's been making waves, this month sees a one-off night-time spectacle, Blink, taking place on the seafront. A collaboration between award-winning choreographer Wayne McGregor, theatre ensemble Pan Optikum and soundscape artist Scanner, the event will animate buildings and see large-scale fire structures on the beach and a pyrotechnical show, all set to music.

Head further along the coast for the second Folkstone Triennial, a three-yearly exhibition that displays specially-commissioned artworks by prestigious artists in public places around town (until 25 September). Refuel at Mark Sargeant's new restaurant, Rocksalt, or fish and chip shop, The Smokehouse — his first ventures since leaving Gordon Ramsay Holdings. You'll wish you were here.
