Gaze on the Atlantic from your own balcony at Hawke’s Point (+44 (0)1726 884 072, hawkespoint.com), a collection of ten new luxury apartments on Carbis Bay in St Ives. The owners, Charles and Louise Ziar, came up with the concept of blending boutique-hotel style with the ease of independent living. It’s far removed from self-catering of old: no damp sheets and broken furniture here. Instead, you can expect top-spec kitchens, luxe bathrooms and spacious living areas with panoramic views. There’s even a concierge service so you can make the most of the local area. From £240 for a long weekend.

For something extra special, the Cove (thecovecornwall.com) is a collection of five-star apartments overlooking Lamorna Cove, near Penzance. It combines the services of a hotel with stand-alone accommodation — perfect for young families. There are 16 luxe apartments with elegant, nautical interiors, plus an on-site restaurant, outdoor pool and lovely touches — such as warm chocolate croissants delivered to your door each morning. From £214 per night for an apartment that sleeps two-four.

Classic Cottages (classic.co.uk) has 550 properties in Cornwall alone. It recently reported a surge of cross-generational bookings, where extended families have returned to the tradition of going away together. Perfect for larger families is Chapel Lodge in Padstow, which sleeps 14. It has an upstairs open-plan living space to make the most of the views over Camel Estuary to Rock. From £1,494 during September for one week.

Gwel An Mor (gwelanmor.com), Cornish for ‘view of the sea’, are chic lodges in Portreath on the north Cornish coast. The resort is made up of 55 Scandinavian-style wooden houses built with sustainable principles in mind. Guests can use the spa, restaurant and surf school. From £445 per week.
