The lowdown JM Barrie's statue of Peter Pan was erected in 1912. It was intended to bring 'quiet pleasure to nannies and their young charges as they walked and played in the park'. The lowdown Once home to Richard Curtis, the director of Notting Hill, the house has since been sold (so don't go knocking) and the original blue door was auctioned off for charity. Although nowadays it's more chic than shabby, Notting Hill still has plenty of character. Wander down Portobello Road Market on a Saturday and snap up a bargain, then take your pick from the excellent bars before catching a film at the Electric Cinema.
