If you thought the good old British pub quiz was all about warm ale and the Battle of Hastings, think again. Some of the capital’s hippest drinking dens have their own quirky take on the theme.
Vibey Essex Road gastropub The Old Queen’s Head (+44 (0)20 7354 9993, theoldqueenshead.com) runs an outrageous version with quiz masters including drag queen Jodie Harsh. Prizes range from free shots to a rollover pot of £1,000.
Die-hard musos will love The Lexington’s (+44 (0)20 7837 5371, thelexington.co.uk) effort, in conjunction with Rough Trade Records, with rounds such as Badly Drawn Boy, in which teams guess the LP sleeve from a kiddy’s scrawl. For trivia hounds, there’s the brilliant Popbitch quiz at Shoreditch’s Sosho (+44 (0)20 7920 0701, popbitchpopquiz.com), while movie buffs can show off at The Boogaloo (+44 (0)20 8340 2928, theboogaloo.org) in Highgate. Their festival theme night saw teams in crazy wigs and outsize sunglasses testing their insider knowledge with rounds of ‘I went to a festival and took with me...’
