Since being crowned this year’s Capital of Culture, Liverpool has become a hub of contemporary cultural projectas. And this month, the city will see a whole host of new openings and events.

The Riba Stirling Prize for contemporary British architecture will be announced at the new Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool (accliverpool.com) on 11 October, while the city’s imposing Metropolitan Cathedral (liverpoolmetrocathedral.org.uk) hosts a major exhibition, Le Corbusier – The Art of Architecture, which has just opened in the crypt.

The Hard Days Night Hotel (+44 (0)151 236 1964, harddaysnighthotel.com, from £170 per night) is now open and offers modern British dining in its Blakes restaurant. Also new is Staybridge Suites (+44 (0)151 703 9700, ichotelsgroup.com, from £105 per night), a glam apartment-hotel complex located in the regenerated Albert Dock.

Britain’s highest restaurant has also opened its doors in Liverpool with Panoramic (+44 (0)151 236 5534, panoramicliverpool.com) located on the 34th floor of the West Tower building, featuring cinematic views.

And for shopaholics, the initial phase of the 42-acre Liverpool One (liverpool-one.com) retail quarter has just opened.
