During the Games A 115m-high brandmark for the Games, it's an unravelling knot of blood-red steel by Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond.
And after? Will be a privately owned tourist magnet.
4 THE ENERGY CENTRE
During the Games Designed by John McAslan & Partners, it has set a new benchmark in power station design with more than 4,000 new trees and 300,000 wetland plants.
And after? Will continue to provide power, heating and cooling for new buildings and communities.
5 AQUATICS CENTRE
During the Games Designed by acclaimed international architect Zaha Hadid, the Aquatics Centre will be the 'gateway' to the Olympic Park.
And after? Will be a national centre for swimming, but also for use by local people.
6 ETON MANOR
During the Games The venue will host the Paralympic Tennis.
And after? A hockey centre, and will host wheelchair tennis and regional tennis programmes.
7 VELODROME
During the Games This super- smooth, humidity-controlled cycling track designed by Hopkins Architects will hopefully produce record-breaking rides and medals for Sir Chris Hoy and co.
And after? The Velodrome, with the Olympic BMX Track, will be taken over by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and used by top-flight cyclists and locals.
8 MAIN MEDIA COMPLEX
During the Games This will house thousands of sports journalists.
And after? The Main Media Complex is expected to become a major 91,000sq m site after being taken over for business use.
9 ATHLETES' VILLAGE
During the Games The housing units have been designed by architects such as Eric Parry and Niall McLaughlin.
And after? Will eventually provide 2,800 new homes, including affordable housing. There's also a competition to name five new neighbourhoods in the Olympic Park.
