British Airways High Life
The Roald Dahl phizz-wizzing postcard competition

Win a trip to New York!

It's 50 years since one of the greatest children’s authors, Roald Dahl, wrote James and the Giant Peach. In this much-loved classic, James and his insect friends embark on an amazing transatlantic flight in a giant peach, landing on the spike of the Empire State Building. To celebrate, we are asking children to send us a postcard about their own adventures. The prize? Travelling to New York for a Giant Roald Dahl Day and having your tale personally illustrated by Quentin Blake.

How to enter

1. There are two age groups to enter: 5-8 years and 9-12 years. Imagine that you are writing a postcard to a friend or relative from the most amazing place you have been. Or invent a place. Be sure to tell us everything that is special about it and see how well you can conjure it up in a few well-chosen words. You don't have to restrict yourself to sending in your entry on a postcard but the maximum number of words we're after is 300 for the 5-8 age group and 500 for the 9-12s.

2. Parents or guardians, write or copy your child's entry into the 'Your postcard entry' field below along with your details and click ‘Submit’. Closing date: 30/09/11.

How to enter

The winner from each age group will have their story illustrated by Quentin Blake, before a final winner is chosen to go on a Giant Roald Dahl Day in New York. Our winner and three guests will be flown to New York and stay four nights at the Hotel Plaza Athénée, a family-friendly boutique hotel on the Upper East Side and close to Central Park. The Giant Roald Dahl Day will be packed with treats: see New York as James did with a helicopter trip over Manhattan; take a trip to the top of the Empire State Building; visit Toys R Us in Times Square, spend a £200 voucher and take a ride on the giant Ferris wheel; and meet Lucy Dahl, Roald's youngest daughter, for tea. The three runners-up from each group will receive a set of Roald Dahl's hardback fiction library (published by Puffin Books and Random House Children's Books), plus a family pass to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden for a year.

Good luck!
