Where once you might have seen military ships in the Bay of Kotor, now you’re likely to spot swanky superyachts. Previously home to naval bases, the fjord-like inlet on Montenegro’s coast is a magnet for holidaymakers seeking rooftop bars, designer boutiques and gleaming marinas – plus, of course, the pebbly coves, olive groves and terracotta-roofed villages that pepper this coastline. Lazure Hotel & Marina sits at the bay’s entrance, minutes from Herceg Novi (aka ‘Sun City’ thanks to its year-round balmy weather).
