There’s a comfort that comes with a tried and tested holiday. Maybe it’s part nostalgia, part predictability, but a certain security comes with spending our hard-earned holiday allowance on a destination we know and love. In 2027, why not use your hallowed holiday hotspots as inspiration to discover somewhere new? Swap the golden beaches of Cornwall for a slice of island life in Guernsey, or the musical magic of Memphis for the jazzy sounds of New Orleans. Here’s our pick of destinations inspired by holiday favourites.

If you like Lanzarote… try Fuerteventura
If Lanzarote’s lava fields, volcanic moonscapes and on-tap sunshine keep you coming back each year, then Fuerteventura is an appealing doppelgänger. Quieter and less built up than its Canary cousin, Fuerteventura still has the volcanic vistas and endless sunshine the islands are famous for but adds beautiful golden beaches and a laidback vibe with chilled beach bars. Explore the sand dunes in Corralejo Natural Park or try electric biking through the desert hills with a local guide. At night, don’t forget to look up. The whole island is designated a Starlight Reserve, so stargazing is simply out of this world.

If you like Barbados... try Antigua
Balmy beaches, tepid turquoise seas and bougie resorts – it’s easy to see why we flock to Barbados each year like migrating flamingos. But if you're looking to swap established glamour for a quieter, more authentic rhythm, Antigua offers a distinct alternative. While iconic spots like Nelson’s Dockyard and Shirley Heights are well worth a visit, the real magic lies beyond the tourist trail: trace the island's artisanal roots in Sea View Farm village, where local potters hand-shape indigenous red clay using centuries-old techniques, or walk through the rainforest canopy at Wallings Nature Reserve, a community-led conservation project. When it comes to the water, trade standard boat tours for a trip out to the Atlantic-carved arch of Hell's Gate Island, or hop over to Barbuda for the desolate, blush-pink stretches of Low Bay.

If you like Austin... try Nashville
If Austin’s live music bars, street poets and barbecue joints bring you back to Texas every year, why not consider America’s other music Mecca, Nashville? Called the Country Music Capital of the World, the toe-tapping Tennessee state capital turns the volume up when it comes to live music and good times. Catch a performance at the legendary Grand Ole Opry or the Ryman Auditorium, pay homage to the great Johnny Cash at his museum or sample the many Prohibition-era speakeasies. Add in hip neighbourhoods such as East Nashville and The Gulch and this Southern city is a mighty contender for your next trip across the pond.

If you like Florence... try Perugia
If the Renaissance art, heavenly architecture and exquisite Tuscan food draws you back to Florence time and time again, consider Perugia in neighbouring Umbria. Located halfway between Rome and Florence, Perugia still has the honey-hued palazzi, fresco-filled churches and grand piazzas, but with fewer crowds and a more relaxed ambience. Wander its mediaeval centre, explore the underground passages of Rocca Paolina, a 16th-century papal fortress, and see the Tuscan Masters in the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria. Boar-snuffled truffles, strangozzi pasta and excellent Umbrian wine will keep epicureans happy.

If you like Cornwall... try Guernsey
Sandcastle-worthy beaches, spectacular coastal walks, a diet of Cornish pasties and cream teas, Cornwall is considered the canon of seaside holidays. However, Guernsey offers a similar salty charm. With scenic cliff top walks, secret coves lapped by turquoise seas and old-school cafés serving fresh crab sandwiches, Guernsey has a similar slow pace but with an added Gallic vibe. Romp around the ramparts of the 800-year-old Castle Cornet, take a peek into Victor Hugo’s Hauteville House or enjoy fish and chips on Fermain Beach. In short, Guernsey is the perfect island escape.

If you like Lisbon... try Ponta Delgada
With its grand Baroque palaces, atmospheric neighbourhoods and sultry nightlife, Lisbon is a favourite among returning culture vultures. In 2027, switch up your Portuguese city break with a trip to Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island, the capital of The Azores. From its perch overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this charming city has a similar appeal, but without the hordes. With its striking black-and-white architecture, whitewashed churches and public squares lined in volcanic stone, Ponta Delgada has all the aesthetic appeal of Lisbon, but it also provides easy access to beautiful black volcanic sand beaches, thermal pools and whale-watching cruises.

If you like Memphis... try New Orleans
The birthplace of blues, soul and rock ’n’ roll, Memphis is a party city where the fun rarely stops. With an equally unapologetic dedication to letting the good times roll, New Orleans makes a worthy contender for your next big trip. Famous for its Creole heritage and Cajun cuisine, the Southern city on the Mississippi River has music pumping through its veins. Mooch around the old-school music bars on Frenchman Street, see some trad jazz in Preservation Hall or kick back with a late-night cocktail or two in the French Quarter.
